Looking for a better way to parent or has it has become clear your current parenting style isn’t working? Are you wondering how you will make it through to the time when you kids leave home? Do you wish you could just have more pleasant interactions with you children?
I was introduced to the STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) approach when my two children were quite young. My youngest daughter attended an cooperative nursery school. At one of the required montly meetings, this parenting approach was discussed and I was so impressed, I jumped at the chance to learn more about a positive parenting method that did not involve punishment.
Because of my successful experience as a counselor and in parenting my own children, I want to assist other parents in raising self-reliant, responsible children. Learning and using effective parenting skills is one of the most creative and challenging opportunities you’ll ever have to make a difference in the world.
You can learn a practical parenting approach of influence and cooperation instead of domination and control. A democratic parenting style views parents and children as equals, not in the sense of “sameness” but equal in terms of “value and worth as human beings”. And, imagine what it would be like to have a cooperative, supportive family atmosphere and actually enjoy parenting and your children!
This blog and the online parenting classes I facilitate, are my way of supporting parents in learning a style of parenting based on mutual respect and fun. And, I hope to alleviate “parent guilt” and restore sanity and common sense to parenting.
My children are grown now with families of their own and applying the same parenting approach that they were raised with. Now my grandchildren are reaping the benefits of a respectful and effective parenting approach.
