Acknowledging Children’s Feelings

Some parents are concerned that if they react too strongly when their child gets hurt, they will encourage an over reaction in the child. While no one wants to encourage “drama queen” behavior, it is important to acknowledge a hurt knee or bloody nose with a hug and a kiss. If done well, the child will feel taken care of and loved without going overboard with their reactions in order to get your attention.
