Adopted Children, Easier to Give Up?
March 13th, 2008 by phyllis
I read an article talking about the idea of adoptive parents wanting to "give up" their adopted children because they can’t or won’t parent the child because of his or her challenges. That some see it as being easier. I feel that to be ridiculous. Both types of parents can experience the same challenges. Biologically it would seem much tougher to give up your child because of the issues he or she is having, you would stick it out. Maybe the stigma that the child is not biologically "yours" makes it sound easier, but they are still part of the family regardless. When you get into the arena of children with mental/physical disabilities, there are many biological parents that put their children in institutions or in care with another. It doesn’t seem like it would be any easier for adoptive parents to give up their children as it would for biological ones, those adoptive parents go through a lot to get their children.
