Staying In Touch Long Distance

I was recently reading an article about how to stay connected to your child when you are not the custodial parent and perhaps live far away. Particularly when children are young, it can be hard to talk on the phone and have a easy way to interest the child in speaking to you. The article suggested playing a board game over the phone. I think this is an interesting idea. The Guess Who game by Hasbro was suggested. Buy two games and send the blue card holder and one full set of cards to your child. You keep the red card holder and the other set of cards. Set up the game near the phone and play by the rules. Specify a time to call and play via the phone. The game becomes the context for conversation and can be continued over time. What a great idea!
