Why Parenting Classes?

I am sure as you look around at parents and their children you sometimes wonder why there aren’t some kind of requirements that parents must fulfill in order to be parents. You may feel that your children are in charge and that you are at a loss to find ways to be more effective.
We are surrounded by Nanny 911, Dr, Phil and Oprah who often bring the problems that many families are facing today right into our homes on TV. Children out of control, parents both working to make ends meet, kids growing up in day care and teens who have more money to spend and cars to drive than any other generation. Many schools have so many behavioral problems with their students that they have a hard time keeping good teachers and academics take a back seat. Parents, guilty because they don’t spend enough quality time with their kids shower them with material things and schedule their every waking moment with extra-curricular activities.
And, yet the most many of us learn about how to parent comes from the way we were raised. And, that usually shows up as doing what you parents did or doing the opposite of what your parents did. Neither of which may be an optimum way of parenting today’s children.
You may read books, but how do you know which one is the best. Who do you believe. Many so called experts seem to think that parenting advice must come from professionals and that the know more about your child than you do.
Obviously, educating yourself is important. The STEP approach to parenting is a positive, effective parenting style that will train your children to be responsible and cooperative. You can actually enjoy your children and know that you have the ability to handle any situation that arises.
Parenting classes can support you in your efforts to meet the parenting challenge and become the best parent you can be. If you are required by the courts to take a Co Parenting Class as part of a separation or divorce you can minimize the negative effects on your children by taking an online class and satisfy the court requirement at the same time.
